Description: Few events in nature have the impact of a powerful earthquake or a massive volcanic eruption. Viva-Facts On Encyclopedia of Earthquakes and Volcanoes, Third Edition features approximately 1,500 cross referenced entries – including more than 200 new to this volume – that reflect the history, characteristics, and causes of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. In addition to a special essay on plate tectonics, the book’s entries cover information on key environmental issues, economic dilemmas, ethical concerns, advances in research and technology, organizations, and individuals who have left their mark on the fields of volcanology and seismology. Because many earthquakes and volcanoes trigger landslides, tsunamis, or avalanches, entries related to these events or processes have been significantly expanded.

The encyclopedia features nearly 200 black-and-white photographs and line illustrations, many of which are new to this edition; and array of helpful appendixes, including a chronology of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions; a bibliography; and a detailed index.

Viva-Facts On Files Encyclopedia of Earthquakes and Volcanoes, Third Edition is an indispensable resource for students of Earth Science or Seismology and others who need current or historical information on earthquakes and volcanoes.
