ABOUT THE PMBOK® GUIDE

In 1983, a dedicated group of Project Management Institute (PMI®) volunteers gathered for ground–breaking purpose—to create project management body of knowledge. This effort would later evolve into the global standard for project management: A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). Though business has changed considerably through the decades, good project management practices remain critical drivers of the most successful business outcomes. They add value, advance strategies, and increase an organization’s competitive advantage.

Today, the PMBOK® Guide is widely acknowledged as the comprehensive authority on effective project management practices. Why? Because it is uniquely developed by project managers, for project managers. A core team of 100 global practitioners/volunteers contribute to each edition of the PMBOK® Guide. In its draft phase, the PMBOK® Guide is open to public review and comment, and the core team reviews and considers each comment. Over 8,500 comments were received during the development of the PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition, making it a true product of the project management community and an essential tool for all practitioners.

ABOUT THE SIXTH EDITION

For the first time, the PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition includes guidance on applying good project management practices within agile or adaptive environments. The addition of this new knowledge makes it one of the strongest, most versatile resources for today’s project management practitioner.

Each section (or Knowledge Area) of the Guide now has four introductory parts: Key Concepts; Trends and Emerging Practices; Tailoring Considerations; and Considerations for Agile/Adaptive Environments.

The Sixth Edition also features greater emphasis on the strategic and business knowledge aspects of project management, with a discussion of project management business documents in the first three chapters. It includes a new section on the role of the project managers, which discusses the PMI Talent Triangle® and the skill sets organizations demand that make project managements more competitive and relevant—technical, leadership, and strategic and business management. In addition, you will find an appendix on Agile/Adaptive Project Environments.
