About the Author:

Ellen M. Chiocca, PhD, CPNP, RNC-NIC, is an adjunct clinical assistant professor in the School of Nursing at St. Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana. She received a PhD from University of Missouri, Columbia, a Master of Science degree in nursing, a postmaster nurse practitioner certificate from Loyola University, Chicago, and a Bachelor of science degree in nursing from St. Xavier University. Dr. Chiocca taught nursing at DePaul University from 2013 to 2015 and at Loyola University, Chicago, from 1991 to 2013. Dr. Chiocca clinical speciality is the nursing of children. Her research focuses on how various forms of violence affect children’s health. She is certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner and in neonatal intensive care nursing. In addition to teaching, Dr. Chiocca also continues clinical practice as a pediatric nurse practitioner in Chicago. Dr. Chiocca has published more than 25 journal articles and book chapters and is also a peer reviewer for the journal Neonatal Network, the Journal of Aggression, Maltreatment & Trauma, and the Journal of Child & Adolescent Trauma.
